Wordpress - Another un-eventful upgrade
Posted by Administrator on Jan 20, 2008
It is again time to give the guys over at wordpress praise. I just did the upgrade from 2.3.1 to 2.3.2 and as usual, it went off without a hitch. I love how both the little upgrades and the major upgrades are always easy, stable and reliable.
Adobe Lightroom

After looking at Apple’s Aperture it is time to take a closer look at the Adobe alternative Lightroom.
Out of the gate Lightroom offers a potentially significant advantage over other photography applications, both Mac and Windows versions are supported. Though for many people in the professional world, this may not be an advantage I suspect there are plenty of amateurs out there who have not plunked down the money for a Mac.
Overall the interface is good and very usable. Across the top of the screen clearly lists the modules / sections of the application (Libarary, Develop, Sideshow, Print & Web). The photo organization and file management appears functional, but not ideal. The organization is flexible; however, lacks the ability to enforce a structure. One particularly nice feature is that when updating or reviewing meta data from within the library you can with one click find all other photos with the same value.
Apple Aperture

I have recently been looking at applications specifically suited as resources for digital photography. I am currently looking at Apple’s Aperture.
Overall this looks like a good application with a lot of capabilities. At a glance the management of photos is a little confusing. Library, Albums, Projects, Light Tables, etc. it was a bit unclear at the beginning where files should be, where masters versus versions are, duplication of resources, etc. In the end, once you read through the guides, it will all make much more sense.
Photo editing is a little weak. I like how versions are managed and originals are never altered and reflect from the user interface. The controls are functional and probably sufficient for most editing and it is always possible to bring your image into an application like Photoshop for additional capabilities. The straiten and cropping tools are crude but functional.
